Day 1
Arrival to Kiev. Meet & greet at the Borispol airport.
Transfer to the hotel, combined with panoramic city tour of Kiev, which is the capital of Ukraine and also the mother city for all Eastern Slavic peoples. More than 1100 years ago Kievan Rus, a powerful European monarchy, was established on Ukrainian territory. The modern centre & the remains of the old city are both on the hilly west bank of the Dnipro, third largest river in Europe after the Volga and the Danube. During the excursion you’ll see the Memorial to the founders of Kiev, The University, St. Vladimir Cathedral, Kreshchatik str., Golden Gate, Opera & Ballet House and the others points of interest in Kiev.
Check in & dinner at the hotel restaurant.
Day 2
Breakfast at the hotel.
Visit to the St. Sophia Cathedral, enlisted into the World Heritage of UNESCO. The main of special value are wall pictures of the 11th century – 260 m² of mosaics and 3000 m² of frescos, that make up a unique ensemble of the Middle Age of World Culture History.
Visit to the St. Michael Golden-Domed Cathedral & Monastery. The monastery was one of the oldest Kievan sacred places. It was started to erect in 1108 on the place of former St. Dymytry’s Monastery. It was named St. Michel’ Golden–Domed owing to the golden coating of its cupola. The inner walls are decorated with frescos and mosaics which were left by the ancient masters.
Continue to St. Andrew’s church located at the northern end of the street & at the top of the charming Andriyivsky uzvis (descent) – the best street of the World! The church was constructed within 1747-1753 in Baroque style – the traditional Ukrainian five-domed, cross-shaped, by Rastrelly, an architect. The slender curves of its blue, white, gold & green exterior stand out against the skyline, perched up above the Podil district at the crest of historic Upper Town, at the supposed site where the Apostle Andrew erected a cross. Its richly decorated interior features a three-tiered iconostasis & several paintings from the 18th century.
Lunch at the city restaurant.
Visit to Kievo-Pechersk Lavra Cave Monastery – the most significant holy place of Kiev, Ukraine, and the Eastern Slavs. The architectural ensemble (the 11th – 19th centuries) of the Upper and Lower Lavra, two underground labyrinths of caves lined with mummified monka, churches and permanent exhibitions of the museum’s collections, the Big Bell Tower are open to Public.
Return to the hotel. Free time.
Departure to the National Opera & Ballet Theater named after T. Shevchenko. It was built as a city theater in 1898-1901 by the project of an architect V. Shrioter who won in the international competition. It’s a beautiful building with the figures of Melpomena and Terpsichore on the facade. The theater has showed opera and ballets for a long time. Before 1917 the stars of Russian opera in Kiev were L. Andreeva-Del’mas, K. Voronets, R. Gors’ka, M. Skybyts’ka and others; world famous opera singers were on tours here, such as D. Anselmi, M. Battistini, M. Hay, E. Dziraldoni, L. Kavaliery, T. Ruffo, F. Shaliapin; K. Gelster, M. Kseshyns’ka danced here.
